Whitby Jet became popular during Queen Victoria’s reign when she wore it in mourning after Prince Albert’s death. Its deep black color soon became fashionable beyond mourning and became a Victorian jewellery favourite. Prized for its rarity and history, the intense black comes from fossilised wood found on the Yorkshire coast.
