A lovely pair of Victorian Whitby Jet wheat-sheaf earrings with real 9ct gold shepherd hooks. Dating to around 1860 and beautifully preserved with fine detail and a graceful, swinging drop.

The wheat motif symbolises prosperity and was traditionally given to young women as a sentimental, hopeful gift.

The deep, lustrous jet creates a striking contrast with the warm gold for an elegant, eye-catching look. The hooks sit on chunky Whitby Jet loops so the drops move freely and catch the light as you wear them; the earring wires have been replaced with new 9ct gold hooks.

Measurements: Approx 69mm drop x 15mm

Condition: Excellent antique condition. Ear wires have been changed and replaced with 9ct gold wires. Very light use on Whitby with very minor nicks commensurate with age - please see photos.
